Windows Update Causing SSD Failures? Microsoft Says No, But It’s Still Happening

by Justin Erickson

Microsoft says it found no evidence that the August 2025 Windows 11 24H2 update (KB5063878) caused solid-state or hard-drive failures reported by some users. The company told reporters it couldn’t reproduce the problem on fully updated systems and saw no spike in failure telemetry. Initial complaints described failures during heavy write and read activity on drives more than ~60% full.
