Windows 11 Updates Hides Password Sign In Option
by Justin Erickson
Microsoft has acknowledged a Windows 11 “bug” that hides the password sign in icon on the lock screen for some devices that also use Windows Hello. When affected users select “Sign in options,” the usual password button does not appear, so the password field never shows on screen. According to Microsoft, the button is still there but invisible. Hovering over the area where the icon should be and clicking will open the password text box, allowing users to sign in as normal. This is the result of recent Windows 11 updates – including August, September, October, and November 2025. A permanent “fix” is not yet available, but Microsoft says it is working to resolve the problem. As Windows Latest said: “[Microsoft] really wants you to guess where the password icon is… and if you are still unable to find it, try clicking randomly on the lock screen. It’ll trigger the password field… hopefully.”
