Ubisoft Rolls Back Transactions After Rainbow Six Siege X Breach

by Justin Erickson

Ubisoft has confirmed a breach of internal Rainbow Six Siege systems that let attackers manipulate bans and in game inventory, grant billions of R6 Credits and Renown to players, and unlock all cosmetic items – including developer-only skins. No personal data (passwords, banking details, etc.) was stolen in the hack. In response, Ubisoft took Siege and it’s in-game marketplace fully offline while investigating. According to a later update, Ubisoft is rolling back all transactions and changes made since December 27th at 11AM UTC while stating players will not be punished for spending the illegal credits. Rainbow Six Siege X servers and core services are now back online. Though returning players may see queues, some accounts that logged in during the affected period may be temporarily restricted as cleanup continues, and the in-game marketplace remains closed. Separate claims circulating online alleged that attackers also stole roughly 900GB of Ubisoft source code and internal data. Insider Gaming, citing sources familiar with the matter, reports that these broader breach claims appear to be exaggerated and that the only confirmed incident so far is the Rainbow Six Siege hack. Bleeping Computer likewise notes it has not independently verified any claims of wider data theft and that Ubisoft has not announced any compromise of customer data.
