TransUnion Breach exposes 4.4 Million Customers’ Personal Data Via Third-Party App
by Justin Erickson
Credit bureau TransUnion disclosed a data breach affecting more than 4.4 million U.S. customers after attackers accessed their SalesForce operations. The incident occurred on July 28, 2025 and was detected two days later. TransUnion says no credit reports or “core credit information” were exposed. Among the data stolen was “names, billing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, and unredacted Social Security Numbers.” TransUnion is notifying impacted individuals and offering 24 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection. To stay safe amidst data breaches like these, users should place a credit freeze on all 3 credit bureau accounts, monitor their credit reports, and watch their financial accounts closely. If your data was exposed in this breach, be weary of scammers reaching out to you pretending to be TransUnion, banks, or other agencies.
