Scammers Use Fake Facebook Copyright Notices to Hijack Accounts

by Justin Erickson

Cybercriminals are targeting Facebook users with fake copyright infringement notices to steal account credentials, distributed through Salesforces’ automated mailing system without manipulating the sender ID, which makes them look real. Victims receive phishing messages claiming their posts violate copyright rules and must be appealed to avoid account suspension. These messages contain links to fraudulent login pages that look legitimate but are designed to capture Facebook credentials. Once attackers gain access, they can lock users out and use compromised accounts for fraudulent activities. To protect against this, users are advised to verify copyright claims through Facebook’s official support page and help center.
