PSA: Discord Says Third-Party Support Breach Exposed ~70k Users’ Government IDs; Hackers claim 2.1M
by Justin Erickson
Discord says an “unauthorized party” compromised a third-party customer service provider (Zendesk), accessing data for users who contacted Customer Support or Trust & Safety. The company reports that about 70,000 UK users may have had government-ID photos exposed, while hackers claim 2.1 million UK users had their IDs exposed. Discord revoked the vendor’s access and is notifying impacted users. Hackers claim they stole 1.6TB of data from Discord’s Zendesk instance, affecting 5.5 million unique users and including some partial payment details. Discord disputes this, saying numbers are inflated and that it is an extortion attempt.
