New AI-Powered Phishing Targeting YouTube Creators
by Justin Erickson
YouTube has issued a warning to content creators about a rising phishing campaign utilizing AI-generated videos, starting in January of 2025. Scammers are sending fraudulent emails using AI to impersonate YouTube’s CEO, sending private videos to creators saying their YouTube Partner Program has changed – and threaten that if they don’t confirm the new terms within 7 days, they will lose key features on their channel, including the ability to upload videos and collect revenue. YouTube responded with a community post saying that they would never send private videos telling users of policy changes or asking for credentials. Those at risk are advised to verify the sources of unsolicited emails, never click unverified and unsolicited links, be wary of urgent requests, and more.
