Data Breach

Conduent Breach Count Jumps From 10 Million to More Than 25 Million

by Justin Erickson

A data breach of business services vendor Conduent has expanded from an early estimate of about 10.5 million people to more than 25 million affected across the United States, one of the largest recorded healthcare-related breaches. Most are from Texas (15.4 million) and Oregon (10.5 million). Conduent handles state benefit programs, printing, payment processing, corporate services, and more for major employers such as Premera Blue Cross and Humana. This is why many victims have never even heard of the company – though their information was handled through its systems. Researchers say the attack was claimed by the SafePay ransomware group, with 8.5TB of data exfiltrated during several months. This information includes “Full legal names, postal addresses, and dates of birth… Social Security numbers and other government identifiers… [and] Medical information, health insurance details, and related claims data.”
